What is a
Blighted Property?

A house, building, or vacant land with debris covering the structure, significant structural damage, boarded-up doors or windows is considered blighted property. Property that has been declared uninhabitable, hazardous, in an unacceptable or detrimental condition to its community is declared Blighted property. Blighted properties are also known as distressed properties.

How does a property become blighted?

A property can become blighted due to a lack of maintenance by absentee landlords or banks and mortgage companies foreclosing on a property but never taking ownership. In some cases, the property owner has died, and the family is unsure about the next steps to acquire the property, or financial issues prevent a loss of income for the property owner.
